Test drove the CSL.. Advice from gurus' please
Hi all newbie alert.
Went to test drive a CSL on Thursday, this one in fact http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1982383.htm The car was ok, bit over priced for the mileage, but in decent nick. It’s been a while since I’ve driven a CSL and have a question. I know you can alter the speed of gear changes with the button behind the gear selector. I’m not sure what setting I had it in tbh, but was in sport mode and in full control of the gear change with the paddles. Gave the car full beans and changed gear at 7K revs from third to forth with a roar of revs, the change seemed to take a while to move from one gear to another. Noticed the transition a bit ponderous in other changes too. So my question is how fast you can change gear in full on banzi mode in milliseconds, not how quick does the paddle react to the driver input, but time taken to swap from one gear to another. Are there any problems with the SMG gearbox which could make the changes slower? I’m aware the CSL doesn’t have the latest DCT or instant shift gear box, but expected it to be much quicker. Did the salesman not set the shift button right or am I expecting too much from a 6 year old car. Help |

Suspect you were in a slow mode, S1 or S2.. Sport button being pressed doesn't affect the gear change time.
In S6 it's apparently 80ms, I find mine pretty quick in S3, and getting quite brutal in S5/S6... Suggest try it again or another one to double check? |

This is the same car that there was a thread about the other day... previously owned by one of the Dans from on here, so you could also contact him to see if he was aware of any issues with it.
Just search for "CA04"

as said above i suggest it could be clutch slur - might be cured with a gearbox/clutch reset/reteach performed by the dealer of specialist
but prolonged slur can result in continuous slip (the clutch wont be worn) due to the SMG software not adjusting properly worse cas new clutch and flywheel (which aint a bad idea at 63k miles) search here also for clutch slur or clutch slip and i think NZ_m3 or The Gorrilla did some good posts try this http://www.cslregister.com/forum/sho...ht=clutch+slur
