if you want your car mapped!
i wouldnt look any further than Sal at Evolve.
Back in March i had Sal put on a map for my car as a trial for a few days and i managed to get a good 500 mile run with it to try it out. I have to say, like Anis, i found it made the car smoother to drive, took away all the flat spots (particularly one at 3500) and most of all seemed to let the car pull relentlessly all the way up to the rev limiter. It felt like the car needed a 8500rpm limit it was pulling so evenly from around 4500 all the way up. Obviously i had the speed limiter removed and sport memory button sorted at the same time. After the car had been to BMW for some work and a BMW software upgrade i carefully thought about if i should put the Evolve map back on (and pay for it this time). I did. I have to say i dont like Dynos much as my car gets more than its fair share of high rpm but i thought id see what difference it made on track which is a much better benchmark in my opinion (especially with the my track data records). The map had been supplemented with about 60kg of weight loss inc new rims. So at Bedford GT after 12 trackdays where my best times were all 2m 47-49s i managed to knock 5.5s off that time with a top speed up by 5.7mph At Snetterton after 5 visits where all my best times were 1m 21.7-22.8 i bettered it by 2.2s and top speed up by 6.3mph. So make your own minds up but i have to say the car feels and drives better, obviously helped also by the rims and weight improvements. Bring on Spa and the full 100kg saving and the 4.10 diff fitted.

There some good reduction in times there Shimmy, but how much of this is down to to driver getting quicker and losing a bit of weight. lol
It will be good to see how quick your semi skimmed body and car is at Spa. Along side my full fat one.

you have to realise (take Bedford) i have done 12 Bedford GT days, 9 of which had dry times and i had only managed to reduce my best time by 2.1 seconds in 8 visits. This one visit reduced it by 5.5 secs!!!!!!!! At Snett my dry times were all 1m21.7 to 1m 28.8 region although i think i had a 1m 21 in me last year. To get down to 1m 19.5 with only 7 clear laps at the end of the day was a surprise but consistent with Bedford results. Mike Wilds certainly helped at Snett. Spa will be interesting if dry, to see mainly against myself what times, top speeds, corner speeds i can make compared with 2009. The car should be 100kg lighter (at least in the afternoon) and the Map and Diff i am hoping for an improvement, but i am concious that last year at Spa was a god day and it will be hard to make any big time improvements

sounds like it has made a difference, is it a generic map they put on?
Just wondering Shimmy, how many times have you been to Spa then? And how much quicker were your last sessions than your first outings? One of your special graphs would be nice to see too - the speed v time are always good to see the differences in times |

Jim
I'll post up my best lap from 2008 and 2009 later but iirc my best times , both in dry conditions, were 2m57.4 in 2008 and 2m54.0 in 2009 there are some fast and some very fast corners and I recommend to anybody to get a few passenger laps and then a few instructed laps if you want to make the best of the day

Good gains there Shim. As discussed at Snett, your car definately pulled about 4 car lengths on mine that day on the straight. Obviously your about 100kg's lighter and you came off the corner a little quicker. On the few clear laps I got my better times were low 1min 22's, way off your pace but enough to pester the GT3 RS's that were there, so I was happy. They don't like giving way though. I heard you had to "push" pass one of them.
Any more on the cup tyre pressure findings?

Achieving 100% throttle vs 90% is definately going to be helping + the rest of the changes inc weight reduction.
