Default Inspection 1

Hi Guys,

Been a bit of a lurker on here for a while. Would appreciate some advice if you don't mind....

It would appear my car is due an Inspection 1 service on time as opposed to mileage. It has been over 2 years since an oil service was last carried out. I assume that this is correct to keep everything above board (I do have a BMW extended warranty also)? For your info, the car has only done 17k from new.

Now from ringind round a few dealers (my nearest is Snows - Portsmouth), I have been getting quotes varying from circa £500, to the supplying dealer in Tring for £900! What is a fair price for an Insp 1??

Any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Nick

Nick,

I rang round half a dozen main dealers before my Insp II of last year. I got the cheapest quote from the bunch and then asked my local (most convenient) dealer to price match it - which they did!

It saved me several hundred pounds

We are £450. You might want to check brake fluid and coolant changes as these are time based also.

Thanks for the responses.

Have rung round 4 so far. Chandlers quoted approx £400, and when asked about 4+ he said that would apply also. Asked the guy @ 9am this morning to work out what the exact cost would be and call me back -Still waiting, I think someone has cocked up..........

Have to say that I fell off my chair when Specialist cars quoted £900 (with their 4+ discount!).

Re. brake fluid, that was done when I bought the car 18 months ago (3k miles ago), so I guess it is just about due again. Seems to be between £50 and £80.

FYI, I did a similar exercise with a service for my 1 series daily and my local dealer refused to price match!

Thorney - Are you able to carry out this work, bearing in mind I have the BMW warranty?

Thanks again guys,

Nick

I guessed that was the case. Shame, as I am yet to find a dealer I trust. I always seem to have problems, ranging from creating other jobs whilst trying to fix one, to curbing my wheels! Would much rather my car looked after someone who can tell the difference between a CSL and an M3!!

Ive heard Murketts BMW are very good at looking after CSLs,a lot of owners use them, and there very good at warranty claims, ask for Andy in the service dept.

If you're in your original 3 year BMW warranty then we can service and stamp your book and your BMW warranty is fine. If you have an extended warranty then its a term that you must use a BMW dealer. Its being challenged in court as we speak as an unfair contract term but as yet.....

Mind you, I heard from BMW warranty themselves that they recognise a TMS stamp and we've had numerous cars in here with servicing all covered by the extended warranty with subsequent claims.

Thorney - I think if/when you could clarify this 100%, then you would be very busy indeed!

I have family in the North bucks area, and went to school just north of Buckingham, so have the excuse to come up your way.
