Replicas??? keyrings on ebay
This is my opinion but I have reasons to believe the CSL keyrings for sale on ebay are replicas??? being passed off as genuine.
1. These do not have original boxes There are some detail differences to the real deal! Mainly 1. The carbon weave is in the wrong direction to the genuine on the main side. The weaves go in a general downward direction versus across. 2. The weave count is wrong for top right corner to top right corner of ///M3 CSL raised portion - this should be exactly 6 cross weaves. 3. The lettering appears to have a sand blasted finish which the genuine thing does not have. 4. The metal chain clasp is smaller than the genuine thing. 5. This detail in photo below gives it away in my opinion to show these are replicas - the top one is genuine Top 3 genuine, last one replica?? The seller is on this forum, ask him if it is indeed genuine. I have my own opinions. Last edited by NZ_M3; 16-09-2017 at 02:07 PM. |

Thanks for posting this info. How much are the ones on eBay? Are they still charging genuine letting prices?

Yes BMW lawyers take copyright very seriously so they asked for a cease and desist of reproductions for sale even if for charity donation. I was entitled to do the one to replace the main damaged part of my genuine used keyring and that was it. So end of story on that saga.
I tried reaching out to bmw for a limited license on 10 keyrings for charity which I was happy to pay them provided reasonably priced or alternatively a limited rerun of an original from bmw directly if they can tell me how many we need to order. They never bothered to return any of my requests. As I said, my opinions from what you said to me was you had three for sale, 1 in a box which you are keeping and 2 without box that you are selling. If you have all 3 then post them up here all together and I will publicly apologise for getting it wrong. Also might I note seeing you are now threatening legal action against me, I never linked to your auction directly, I stated clearly in my first sentence this was my opinion and my reasons for it based on photos and comparing them to genuine keyring photos online. I also note for legal purposes that your private message to me indicated you had 3 for sale and only 1 in a box which you are keeping. You then post a reply here and then message me on ebay to show me a photo of your genuine keyring which you no doubt own and possess but then state that this is the only one you now have for sale and it has always been this one for sale. I have replied to you via ebay showing your message to me that you indicated you have 3 in possession. I have offered to also public correct this thread and the other on m3forums if you can show me all three keyrings together and admit I have opinioned wrongly and can prove the keyrings you are selling are all genuine. I have offered also to purchase if indeed genuine. As stated in the first sentence this post is an honest opinion not an accusation without basis of photographic comparison evidence. Your loss if you say for this single keyring is €650 which is what you are asking on ebay classified Germany which I will happily compensate you for in exchange for a genuine CSL keyring. This is my offer. Have a good day! Last edited by NZ_M3; 16-09-2017 at 01:51 PM. |

Just an update
The seller has shared a photo with me on ebay of all three keyrings together on a genuine box. He says I am finished after he posts the photo up. The way I see it is this. He's here so potential buyers can direct the questions to him directly, I still have questions about the points I raised above as the photo he provided is a bit blurred for all three keyrings. My offer for the genuine one he holds with the box still stands ... the other two he has for sale I am not interested in, but I will retract my opinion that they are fakes for now. Potential buyers can decide for themselves. |

So the seller has asked that this post be taken down in 6 hours or he will take me to the lawyers.
I have no legal basis to share the photo he shared with me of the 3 keyrings together - that was via PM on ebay so the photo is not in the public domain so it will remain private. But potential buyers can ask for them I guess. Unlike the photo linked above they are available on ebay. The seller can share it with everyone on here if he so wishes. I asked him for permission to share it he has not given it. I have stated to him that instead of suing me which would cost him quite a bit he should just make a complaint to my law society directly for which I am a member. I have also offered for the BMW Patent lawyers who contacted me as a result of the above photos he has reposted (which were asked to be taken down by the way by the BMW patent attorneys directly - so he's in technical breach of their cease and desist request by re-publishing them) to adjudicate this and to confirm that these are genuine.
