Default Service manual? What size bolt is this?

Hi All,

New member here. Proud owner of a 53 plate silver grey CSL. A couple of minor issues with the car I'd like to sort. Hoping you can help.

Firstly the flap on the air box doesn't work, happy to remove flap for now and replace the potentiometer in the future. What is the best way to do this? Searched the technical area and while lots of people say to do it I can't find any instructions, other than it's supposed to be very easy. Also you can see in the pic attached there is a bolt missing from the housing, does anyone know the size, and is there a recommended service manual, exploded diagrams etc. that people buy?

Many thanks

Gareth

Part number for that bolt is 07119901780

part number 12 in diagram below - Fillister head with washer M6X20-Z1 SW 4

For parts go here: http://realoem.com/bmw/select.do and enter your 7 last digit of vin in the Serial Number box = or alternatively go find a copy of BMWETK to download and have it on your laptop all the time.

For workshop manual ... go find the 12.2007 version (last version) of TIS and install it on your windows computer. It has all you need to work on the E46 M3 CSL and more.

As for the flapper motor ... go search on ebay ... they are a generic part that came on the valvetronic motors found in many 1 series and compacts (N42 motor) ... very cheap from ebay. Just install and run test in DIS/GT1 to calibrate.

How do you get to the test/calibration option in DIS/GT1?

Welcome Gareth.

Sometimes you have to run the test twice so it knows which way to turn and how far to turn the flap - you should hear it buzz just before it open.

I think you can also run the "adapt_geraeuschklappe" job in Tool32 -- sometimes have to run it twice like the DIS job. Seemed to work when I was testing my flap
