New CSL Owner
Hi Guys,
Thought it was about time I joined the madhouse and introduced myself, I have recently (this week) collected a SB CSL and as you can guess Im a very happy bunny at the moment.. The car needs a few bits doing to it to bring it up to my ocd standard, But Im gonna enjoy doing the little jobs that need doing, First off was black alloys returned to their rightful silver colour (done today), Next off is Supersports all round, (ordered and going on Monday) New trim around the SMG shift (collecting tomorrow, along with new centre caps and a front carbon splitter), In 2 minds whether to get the wheel retrimmed or bite the bullet for a new one, As the Alacantra is pretty tired and the black plastic from the inner top and bottom steering wheel is also coming off,(close to the M track button), I believe the inner wheel top and bottom cost around £300 alone, then the cost of a re-trim £150 + del + coll approx £40, Almost £500 if my prices are correct against a new wheel including top and bottom trim for £690 inc Vat, Finally I need new wheel bolts as mine are rusty, BMW quoted me around £80 for a full set, I have spotted a guy on ebay selling what look like quality M3 Bolts for less than half that price, All he sells is wheel bolts and car mats, (great feedback) Don't think they are OEM though, Certainly don't want to compromise on anything on this car, but also don't want to throw money away unecceserily so would appreciate any words of wisdom from you experts, Final question, how do the front carbon splitters get attached? Many thanks in advance guys, Will post lots of pics when car is looking pristine. |

Welcome Mr Sagman!
Sounds like you have a plan to get her looking just right again. Regards the steering wheel refurb, my initial thoughts would be to get it re-trimmed as your price for a new wheel including plastic trims seems rather a tad optimistic as I'm sure it was more than that last time I checked. Looking forward to seeing some pics - even though it's a slower black one...

Hi Sagman
Things I've had to do to get it to box-fresh OEM spec : - CSL sill plates (lacquer comes off) - CSL Gill tabs (lacquer comes off) - Swapped the drivers and passengers upholstery to halt any wear on the drivers side bolster (diy on here for that, not too hard) - Exhaust clamps (an M3 weakspot..eventually got a new backbox though for other reasons) - Wheel refurb - Refurbed splitters (also got a spare pair of the new ones...but as has been mentioned don't use them on the autobhan or they will look for a new home in a German hedge somewhere) - Front bumper re-spray - Paintshielded front bumper, splitters and roof (don't damage the roof !) - I've also plastidipped the rear of my front seats to protect them as they are very vulnerable - Subframe repair Leaking rearview mirror is something to be aware of as can damage the interior, but I've not had that issue. I've not head any steering wheel issues so can't really help there, but I don't think it's too hard to re-spray the trim plastic. |
