Default Advice on Tracking Devices

Friend looking to fit a tracking device to his car.

Can anyone give advice on which system to go for & any personnel experiences with the different companies (hopefully not having to be recovered).

Thanks in advance

I had a Tracker Echo system fitted to a car. It was a pain in the butt - lots of false alarms (they ring you up), lots of "tag not found" alarms supposedly because i had my mobile too close to the tag, then Tracker couldn't replace the tags when the battery ran out (sealed for life item) so they obseleted the system and offered me a deal on one of their lesser models (Horizon I think). By that time the car wasn't worth anywhere near as much so told them where to go. I wasn't happy with them at all. It was their then top of the line system (Thatcham Cat 5).

That said . . .

My car was never stolen so I don't know how effective the system was - but given the amount of alarm calls I have every confidence the system would have been highly effective and I'd have been glad I'd fitted it.

Mine came with a TRACKER system, easy to transfer and give you options on payment yearly or life of your ownership, gets serviced and checked at your home every couple of years.

a decent tea leaf will no doubt be able to find quickly and deactivate if they really want the car.

its not like a house where its a big area to search and most tracking devices always end up in the same places as there is not a lot of room for them as modern cars are packed with wiring and electronics and packed tightly.

if it helps with reducing insurance claims then fair enough but will the initial outlay and annual subscription really reduce the premium enough to justify it?

peace of mind I guess.

My subscription worked out to be £150 for the year or £399 for the life of the car ownership.

Wouldnt want my car back after some scrote had been joy riding in it
I honestly hope they would turn traction off and wrap themselves around a very big tree.

Yes, I think that mine is with them. Plenty of false alarms and nobody has ever been out to service or even fix the problem. I am not even sure how it is supposed to work ie every time I take her out I get a call !!!! Am I supposed to ring them every time I use it -????
