Is it worth getting one of these?

Understand that you could do some damage if you adjust something you shouldn't but for general fault diagnosis and being nosy would it be worthwhile? Or is it just a cheap piece of crap that wont work? |

Sometimes your better off not knowing, and leaving the techie bits to the experts.

we often get people in who have meddled and made things worse. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
Also having a tool like this, WILL make you paranoid and not enjoy the car. |

I have it, the INPA software doesnt like the CSL ECU much, throws loads of weird version warnings. (atleast the software that came with my cable, looks the same though)
Havent tried the other software yet, If it aint broke, best is really to leave it, otherwise just take it to Elms or whoever if there is a problem. but then again, if you're like me, then get it, and have a browse around (at your own risk) you can still see the sensors working which is pretty neat. |

I've got the package from this lot, and would recommend it for the £30 quid. It installs very simply and it's then easy to look at diagnostics.
http://bmtechnic.co.uk/ For example when I had an ABS fault, I looked at the code and found it wasn't something easily fixable myself (if it had been a wheel sensor, it's a pretty easy driveway job), so off to the dealer it went. It also lets you change the car/key memory settings. I think it only gets dodgy if you try to reprogram any of the modules, then you obviously run some risk of really screwing something up if you don't know what you're doing.
