Do you really think I put an offer on that car Did Elms actually tell you the car carried the same engine number, as you seem convinced. Last edited by Bunty; 30-04-2015 at 09:21 PM. |

Easy there .... Not trying to offend - merely adding to the discussion and asking the question- do collectors look negatively at seriously collectable (and typically very old) cars that have had professional restorations - that can include complete engine rebuilds?

The remarks below are just my observations from buying classic cars for many years. If had known that a board member was selling the car I would not have said anything. Good luck with the sale. |

To answer your question, yes, collectors do look negatively on anything that is not original. Most professional restorers that rebuild engines will always try and reuse the original block to have a matching numbers car. Good original cars will beat a restoration any day of the week, that's not to say that a nut and bolt resto is not worth a great deal of money on a collectible car. Just that an unrestored version will be worth more and significantly more in a lot of cases. Non original rare cars are still very desirable but just don't command the same high prices. As the saying goes " it's only original once" Last edited by Bunty; 30-04-2015 at 10:39 PM. |
