your 235's on a 9" should turn in very crisply now?

my car came with 225's on 8.5j, now on correct 8j its not so sharp ( like me some would say before you start)

Not the sort of thing you see on track day cars

So do I understand this correctly, a more streched setup will be better for track??

Not exactly. I'm no expert but as I understand it, you need the 'right' amount of stretch.... Too much and then the sidewalls cannot give you any compliance, too little and the tyre rolls around too much...

So 225 on 8.5 feels good ( on the road - not driving too fast) but I think it will lose grip on track before a car with 225 on 8"
235 is perfect on 8.5
255 on 8.5 will give you more braking ( as it's wider) but at the expense of cornering ( tyre is too wide to be held in place 'correctly' )

It depends on the brand, the suspension set up and how you like to drive too - this is what I think - and that could all be wrong
