[quote=NZ_M3;175348]What a load of rubbish .. there's only been 5 software versions (current 7843255) ...
Ok fair enough i see it now the latest code!that is cos ive only just found the paperwork so i apologise and i now agree it is the 5th update! I did state that i WAS TOLD i never said i could prove it.but i found the paperwork and its correct so APOLOGIES misinformed to my knowledge However i still believe this update is better by far then the last one i had. So thank you for clearing it up and i still stand by the quality of the company that did the update Thank you im happy with mine!

Ok an update.i ve spoken with the company that installed my update and i misunderstood what i was told so here goes:ive had 9 updates of a maximum of 14 before the ecu needs replacing.the 9 updates are not 9 different updates but possibly the same updates done once or twice before hence i understood i had 9 updates so apologies for misleading anyone i genuinely misunderstood what i was told.
So as the tech and nzm3 say there are indeed 5 updates for the csl Hope that clears it up for everyone Also autologic have quoted me £10k for their software so im gonna redirect people wanting updates to bartletts.damien offers super service and great prices Thanks

The later software slows the change down and smooths it out, I think I ran the original version when I raced with SMG, I certainly flashed it backwards to make the shift more aggressive.
I'd go with NZ if he states revision 3 was the peak.

All of our cars came out from the factory with 2 flashes of the software ... an original and a delivery software ... then there was a BMW actioned update, so most of these modules should have at least 3 flashes taken up already.
My post was originally to make sure that you weren't getting duped by companies that offer these upgrades - not intended to offend! Apologies if it came across that way. I am still searching for that very first software version that all our cars came with but was over-written by the factory when the cars were delivered - it has a part number that isn't shown on any BMW's system, so I presume it was a prototype software. As for software versions and what they do - my feel (and having tested a few of them out in my own car over a period of time) is that with each version it has gotten softer and smoother but also with less clutch slurring. I still currently have the latest software in the car in the spare SMG module and I must say I have grown to like this version a lot more now as it certainly seems to provide much more mechanical sympathy to the components during shifts of varying speeds and throttle application. My thoughts - most likely a worthy update if you want longevity and less clutch slurring, but maybe not so if you long for that bang away super fast gear changes and feel like you are a F1 super star. |

dame, now I'm up in arms which to get or not.
Can any BMW specialist do this as I don't want to take it back to BMW here. What equipment do they need for me to check the current update and to reflash to any of the 5 versions. Much harder than reflashing my GTR with the idiot proof COBBS.

So will dealers do the latest SMG update if you ask them to (& only if you ask them to?) & do they charge for this service (e.g. if the car ais alreDy in for some other work)?
