They are good but not that good and won't go forever if you change your oil every 30K miles luckily the 16V KR engines are know to drink a bit of oil when they are used properly so frequent oil top ups constitute a constant supply of fresh oil On my " Ring Learner " I use to change the engine oil & filter every weekend as the used oil was so saturated in fuel, I was in two minds whether to recycle it in the fuel tank

That's exactly what I mean never did an oil 'change'. I ran the 9A 2ltr bottom end on mine which was rebuilt so it didn't use that much oil at all. Never managed it round the ring though for one reason or another

On the other hand I used to know out gearboxes and CV's all the time, nearly put RAC out of business as a student

The oil on the KR engines is lost / vapourised through the 16V head, not the bottom end. My friend runs a MK Jetta 16V GTi with fully rebuild 9A 2 litre block with KR 16V heads running conservative 180 BHP and his one uses oil as mine did. They are just heavy breathers

about nearly putting RAC out of business in your Yoof
These MK2 gearboxes can't cope with extra power and it's why I left my "Ring Learner" KR engine alone and got it down in weight instead
