I carried on and was going to pull over at the next junction, when suddenly the engine light disappeared and i regained all cylinders.

It has got really bad now.

Im sure from what happened today its something to do with the ignition system?? its got all new coils and plugs etc.

What else other than these items run the ignition system??

I will drop the car straight back off to BMW. Hopefully now there should be a fault on the computer.
Hope you get it sorted mate, its a bloody nightmare when they cant find a fault.

Take it up with BMW UK if you get no joy from the dealer. The fact of the matter is that there is a problem with your car and just because they can t find it does not mean it does not exist!

It is all covered under warranty tell them to fix it or they will have BMW UK to deal with.
+1

hopefully now it will show a fault code, and they will fix it. but if you dont end up getting anywhere with it and them, think you should really consider blowing the engine. hope it doesnt come to that.

good luck

Hi,

Symptons seem to suggest an ignition or
fuelling issues ?

Water in fuel ? or dodgy fuel at some stage ?

Injectors sticking or contaminated with water etc ?

Have BMW taken the ECU out at all to test and check it ?

BMW can read the ECU.

They seem just to be looking at all the usual suspects
which would throw a Code, when they can see
for themselves that none are being thrown.

Problem with BMW Certified Technicians is that if its
not in the book then it does not exist.

I would ask that your ECU is read and tested.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

school boy error if you look on e46 fanatics, do a search for coils there is a video on changing and checking coils, a muppet could do it after watching the vid! I would front the dealer and say you want to take it to a CSL specialist for them to check (park lane / murkkets) and if they find anything they have missed you want a full refund, which I just got from BMW a year on for work that tried to sort a fault but didnt.

A fault code gives an effect, not a cause.

A misfire detected for instance on no 3 cyl could have 5 possible causes.
