As Brett says the thermostat could be sticking.
IMO throw the motorsport one in if you are not daily driving it, in v cold weather and never getting up to temp. |

Hi,
If your running the 55 deg stat, then in daily driving once its opened, if in good order it will stay open unless you have ambeint air temp of 7 deg and less. The idea of the Sport Stat, is to open and stay open. When you had the head Gasket replaced did you re- surface / skim the head ? S54 is alloy head and should be re-surfaced everytime the HG is replaced. Many do not and get away with it, some are not so lucky. Get and old thermostat, remove the centre but keep the outer, prevents water caviataion, and fit. If you have water temp issues with what is effectively 'no thermostat' then its Water pump, Rad or more likely head related. Regards, The Gorilla. |
