If i recall, i think mine was 358bhp at the flywheel in standard trim before its Stage 1 tune. They tend to be between 355-360 or so i think.

Well, queue my pathetic runs...

Many apologies for not posting sooner, had other 'pressing' issues such as repairing a ****ing bumper.

As some of you may be aware I went along to Hypertech last Sunday for a RR day with my local crowd of 'cruiser's from www.falkirkcruise.net I hadn't had the CSL on the Rolling Road before so was interested in how she run.

Car run alright, I thought initially. Wasn't jumping around the SMG gearbox at all, once in 3rd, stayed there for the run from about 1400rpm right up to a needle indicating 7800rpm or so. Was a bit fiddly-farty-abouty at 1st but Duncan got the hang of it and away we went.

We done 3 Runs but he wasn't happy with any of them and the last one, (One shown below) was done in 4th Gear.

Duncan wasn't at all happy with the runs and was going to call around with any recommendations on how to improve it or do it better on this type of car.

Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with the figures or that fact that I paid for 3 runs, got 4 however but only one graph. Will discuss all with him when I go along to another a week on Sunday.

- Why does he brake at the end of the run?

Any comments on how to get this sorted are more than welcome as explained, I am going back on Sunday and may get another run or two thrown in to sort it out.

FYI, Car was serviced about 4K miles ago, last July. FBMWSH, new air filter just a few days before hand.

The dyno calculates the resistance of the transmission when he lets the throttle off, its what the call the "run down" and it uses that to calculate the power of the car.

I would imagine that by breaking the dyno would think the engines slowing faster = theres more resistance than there actually is and give you a higher figure?!

You should NEVER brake during run down - it makes the BHP "appear" higher than it actually is. You need to go to a dyno operator who has some experience of M3's. There is a little trick required to get them to rev out correctly - sworn to secrecy I'm afraid.

Well said ... aside from my bias , only through experience ..
Thorney has buckets of experience with CSL's and M3 would not , outside of that others like BM Sport / Bexley and simpsons ... trust my pride and joy to any monkey with 10 mins experience

Here's the print out from my Stage 1 at Thorney back in August - 370.7bhp at the flywheel:
