Now the induction noise and the exhaust (with the SS Race back-box) fight for dominance of who is loudest .

Been running the full SS system with non res Centre section.

Airbox certainly has a fight on its hands to be heard.

I had Cats, non res pipe and lightweight race = 105/106DB at Snett.

Then tried every alternative, the CSL now has SS cats, SS non res and OEM back box and I find that is the best sound.

Would love a few laps in the CSL with the intrax and cage.

tks for your answer. would love to take you next time i'm out on track

think i am going to stick to the stock exhaust for now as i have really no complaints about the intake noise. I was just doing this for weight loss but having worries on a brands gp day at 101dB static is something I can do without.

i thought that since the stock setup only registered 88db for some reason, I was never going to put 10db just by getting the resonator and back box. But it does seem like guys are getting up to 105/6db with race cats + resonator+race box. shame. I guess I have to look for weight loss some other way.

have you considered Recaro Spa's?

2.5 Kgs carcass and 3 kgs for runners. I realise they're budget busters but a good quality second hand seat could net 5-10 kgs saving over GRP Recaro's or oem seats.

Nah, get a 3 inch straight through pipe and single exit, and save the oem weight, approx 23kg, probably cost a grand. It's my next mod in winter.

I can pm you details.

Before you go down this route, I would research this a great deal, as I have seen cars fitted with just the cross-over section in a different position that then messes with the back pressure and cause all sorts of weird issues with the VANOS, where the cars lost 30-40bhp in the mid-range due to the VANOS becoming confused and not working properly. There is a big thread about it on the M3forum. A big exhaust manufacturer had to completely redesign their exhaust because of the issues.

Mine had Silencer's where the cats should be. Due to the class regs I had 2x 100cell cats fitted. That gained me 10bhp

These cars were gaining a small amount at the top end, but loosing huge amounts in the mid-range, so the power step "felt" good, but the reality was a loss of area under the graph.
