Weeping diff and noise !!
Hi,
Noticed oil from rear of car .so sunday jacked car up and had a nose appears my diff seal is weeping and when I turn light to the left I can hear a faint rubbing noise .I have booked car in for tomoz morning for the work should I replace diff fluid with Diff fluid w/fm booster part#8 22 2 282 583 when seals are done any views will be massively appreciated Im not remotely mechanically minded but have read this fluid is really good.: |

The diff oil BMW will sell you should have the FM Booster in it nowdays I believe.
My diff was groaning back at the beginning of the year so I changed my fluid, it's been fine ever since. |

No worries, hope the leaking hasn't damaged your diff, i've not had that so can't comment if they are related, fingers crossed for you that they are not!

very true, very common thing. point to note if anybody does it themselfs. make sure they sell you the proper diff oil with the extra additive in it! before changing the oil get the diff oil warm. once the new oil is in you need to go to a empty car park and do 20 full circles on full lock then 20 full circles the other way on full lock. then take the car for a good run and give the diff a good working out. it will take roughly 1000km (600 miles) before the oil works it way properly into the friction plates.

Just received car back and had all seals done in the end and the noise has gone hooray. Thanks for your posts peeps.

Thats good news. Also picked mine up this morning from the dealers sporting a nice shiney new diff, rear shafts and some sensors Mmmmmmm nice and tight |
