Default CSL colour - why only SG or SB ?

I think I read somewhere that SG was a BMW motorsport colour, but was there a particular reason why these colours and why only these ?

Remember the Steel Grey (or very similiar) Prototype CSLs back in 2002? Guess they've all been squashed now

cuz they had run out of Harlequin, bummer but true

Silver is apparently a German race colour. Not sure about the black ones though..... why would anyone buy a slower car.. blah blah blah ?

The CSL was too fast for other colours they all ran off and BMW gave up
Or was it they wanted the CSL to look as hard as nails
