Default Metallic noise...

Hello everyone,

The car sometimes makes a metallic noise in the engine, especially when going around in low gear, you miss someone?

Another thing is that the idling is sometimes unstable.

Any idea?

Cheers,

Manu

Does idle stabilise when you turn off aircon? My idle kind of pulses with aircon on and is solid with it turned off.

Metallic noise - can you post a video?

It could be fuel and the engine is pinking or it could be the vanos or shims

Open the bonnet and get some 1 to give it a quick rev to about 3000rpm and if the sound comes down with the revs the vanos is going
i have just had a new 1 fitted under warranty.

The sound will come from the front of the engine

The noise is intermitant, mainly at low revolutions (up to 3500revs). It's here that I'm getting pinking.

But at the dealer, it's diagnostiocs machine rules out VANOS problems. But does detect one cylinder ocasionally misfiring, so I imagine the unstable idle will be caused by a coil or plug, or even the lambda sensor could could be part of the problem if not all of it

A friend of mine experiences the same in his CSL.

Any clues?

By the way, stepping away from this topic for a second, does any member here live, have lived or know of a CSL in the Clapham Junction area of south London?

Thanks for the help.
