Default laptop recording

I have bought a 3.5mm jack plug mic for my laptop to record some training in the office.

I use audacity to save the recordings on, I cant get it to work ??

If I plug a 3.5mm lead into my laptop and other end in my Iphone i can record my voice messages from the Iphone (external device)
I would have thought, plug mic in, press record on the software and bob's your uncle

LOL

its not that mate, it may be that when the mic is inserted it see's it at speakers?? maybe ? and not a mic
cant see anywhere in the control panel that changes it
when you have the control panel open you can see the mic level shoot up when its plugged in but then nothing....

You're right it should just work. Thought I would shout the obvious Mute (Is by default) and potential for built in mic to conflict.

Windows 7?

Oh and I knows you're a 'puter hexpert too
