Default Yellow Cog fault

Hi all,

In a bit of a panic as I'm supposed to be heading to the 20th anniversary gathering at the end of the month.

The car has been parked up since last summer. I brought it out for an oil change and its annual National Car Test (NCT) in March. The yellow cog flashed up but cleared when the mechanic was driving it. On the way home from the garage the Yellow Cog fault light stayed on and the car stuck in fourth and cut out abandoning me on the side of the road. I turned the car on and off a few times and it went back into neutral, started and I limped home. I brought it back to the garage to replace the 'salmon relay' but the yellow cog light stays on permanently now. Are there two salon relays as the mechanic thinks the one he replaced is for the cold start?

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Niall

yeah i think either the linkage is slightly seized or a detent spring broken
not going to know until you start getting in there and looking at whats going on

Have ordered the replacement springs. Hopefully that's the problem as pump appears to be priming etc ok. Error seems to be clearing when restarting the car but then if the car is driven hard the warning light comes up. Stuck in gear on me when accelerating onto the motorway today.

Just to close out on this, the springs weren't the problem so the next culprit might be the sensor on the gearbox, which it turned out to be. Sensor fitted and faults resolved we hit the road to Munich with fingers crossed less than 24 hours later..
