Also, just be clear on weather you want the ECU software updated or not. They may do both together. In my case, I didn't want this. |

From what I've read on here, the latest SMG update makes the changes a little slower/smoother & as I don't track my CSL (heresy I know), can't see why I wouldn't want this update. |

Haven't driven the CSL much since, but SMG is definitely smoother. Downshifts seem more on the money. Is also better in traffic...less jerky. |

Can anyone tell me what the latest version or id is for the ECU software update?
Mine is in at the local dealers & here's the response I got when I asked them to check out updating to the latest ECU & SMG software: "There is no software update for your car or gearbox. I've been told E46s don't run software." |

There's basically two software version for the CSL - the 0301 version which came on all the cars and the update in early 2008?? with the 0401 version. There are then sub-variants of each which breaks down roughly as follows: - National Japan version (for their fuel) - option code L807A - EOBD version - Data record without EOBD version - option code S861A - V-max unlimited versions - option code S231A Each one carries with it its own ZB (part) number which is matched to the hardware variant for the DME. Here's a screenshot of all the CSL ZB versions on BMW's WINKFP And here's the screenshot of the BMW parts number system showing which is which (well .. 3 of them at least) - the main ones Basically here's what's what - ZB numbers (bracket is software number): Japan version - 7837338 (7837339) - v-max unregulated - 7837336 (7837337) - standard Jap version software EOBD Variants - 7837328 (7837329) - standard EOBD version - 7837330 (7837331) - EOBD v-max unregulated Data Record without EOBD variants - 7837332 (7837333) - standard non EOBD version - 7837334 (7837335) - v-max unregulated Each of those above are for software 0401. I haven't bothered looking into 0301 version, but can most definitely do if requested. Last edited by NZ_M3; 19-11-2014 at 11:58 AM. |

I am still on the very first SMG Software from 2003 but i would like to try out the newer versions.
I already have the latest daten files but i would like to be able to revert back to my old software incase i don't like it. I know its "just" a matter of finding the old daten files. I might have found the right one but its a complete version weighing in at 8GB which are split in several 700mb parts on a shitty hoster. I am pretty new to this, so i am asking if theres a different way? I.e. Export my old SMG software? Or perhaps someone can send me the old daten files? The one i need is 2882611.
