Pothole Claims

Hi all,

Hit a pothole hard at the weekend in my E46 325, trashed a tyre plus i guess there will other damage e.g. tracking etc.

Has anyone had a similar incident - and any luck pursuing a claim against the relevant council?

Any help appreciated . . .

Search for potholes on the cutters! Quite a recent one on there. It appears that people who have tried to claim have largely been unsuccessful. The pothole needs to have been notified to them and they not to have repaired it within 48(?) hours for it to be even slightly worth trying. Maybe get someone to report it and 'hit' it again a day or two later

I hit one years ago in my E46 M3 they tyre went flat fairly quickly, had repair done then went back took picture and claimed for two tyres, as I do not just replace one at a time and the council paid up, so rushed out and got two new tyres and sold the good one on ebay

Claims against the relevant councils are now becoming commonplace, people are fed up having to pay out for tyres.
The quickest way to get them filled is to claim, not just for the tyre but for the wheel which in most cases will sustain a hairline fracture, and of course tracking.

However do remember that your compensation for loss and damage, has to come out of the same revenue budget that road maintenance comes out of. More claims = more potholes 'Catch 22'.

Who needs speed humps when we've roads filled with craters?

Thanks for the advice - i've found potholes.co.uk which gives a process to follow to make a claim. I'll keep this thread updated as I'm sure i won't be the only one with this issue!

Caught the strike on my dashcam - hell of a bang followed by a "f**kin' 'ell" which amused young Miss Rick no end when i replayed it . . . I can just imagine the court case . . . "I'm sorry for the foul language m'lud but one was quite shocked" . . .

Will post it up when i work out how!

I have one in process at the moment (Oxfordshire). I hit a reported (marked with paint) pothole. This cracked the rear rim, and destroyed a brand new tyre. I don't know the result yet, but I made sure I first re-reported the pothole to see how long they took to fix it, then put a claim in. In my case there was a standard claim form on the council's website. You can also request info from the council under the freedom of information act to find out if they have checked the road often enough, made the repair on time etc, which you can use to prove negligence (it this was the case).
