Finally got wheels refurbed (& new tyres)
My MOT was approaching, definitely needed new tyres (Michelin Super Sports) so looked around and got prices from the usual suspects (e.g. black circles, event, camskill, mytyres etc). Decided to also call Chris at Exel Wheels ( www.exelwheels.co.uk ) to get an indicative cost for all 4 wheels to get refurbed at a later date, Chris then mentioned he could try and beat the price on the tyres, which he did comfortably.
I know Chris from the 911uk forum back in my 964/993 days, he's a top guy and knows his stuff. The service through Exel Wheels is that Chris will come to your home/place of work to pick up your wheels and then provide you with loan wheels in the meantime. He has a large stock of Porsche wheels but also carries the standard 18" E46 M3 wheels. I mentioned I had AP's on the fronts, so I was not sure that the 18"s would fit, but they were OK. Whilst my wheels were being refurbed, I took the CSL in for its MOT on Chris's loan wheels and it passed fine. Colour was a key consideration, Chris had done plenty of research on CSL wheels colour and spoken to a few refurb outfits. For my job, Chris used Lepsons down in Kent and made sure he discussed exact requirements with them. Chris oversees every job and often asks for work to be redone if he is not happy himself, I know how fastidious he is, his 993 Carrera S was immaculate and very well maintained. A week later, Chris came to my work place and fitted the new tyres and refurbed wheels. (pleased to see that Chris uses spindles to take off/put on wheels). Overall very happy, zero hassle and a great price. Will now look to get the wheels refurbed on the family workhorse E70 X5 with it's 20" rims, but SWMBO seems to kerb the wheels weekly.... |

By the way, pre-refurb I thought my wheels were in reasonable nick but once the wheels were off and we looked at them properly, there was corrosion. Luckily spotted before it got too bad.
For those of you who have not checked your wheels recently, worth looking out for. Exel Wheels FB album shows some of the corrosion on the wheels. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...5195812&type=1 |
