Oily/Damp air intake??
Just taken my air filter out to give it a little clean (its not too bad actually - steeping in the sink just now) and Ive noticed that cylinder 5 and 6 are very damp/oily. 1 2 3 and 4 are perfectly clean. 5 is probably the worst.
Is this a sign of anything? Find it strange that the rest are immaculate. Pics ... |

Pretty normal I believe. Not checked mine but I've seen other people discuss it (years ago mind!)

They are all like that there is a small hole just behind the support leg in this pix
It is a breather for the sump so when you clean it dont use any thing but a cloth with carb cleaner on the cloth or it will contaminate the oil The BMW dealer done mine i went and showed them after i seen mine It was cleaned free of charge |

Confirmed with dealer yesterday that all is ok. Oil / dampness is drawn up from the breather into the trumpets.
So how do I clean it properly? Particularly the dust in the bottom of airbox. |

Use some brake cleaner and a rag!

I used a trich based fluid, similar to brake cleaner in result but almost odourless and evaporates leaving no residue.
Intake trumpets look sweet now and no sandpit left! |
