Also it's not the DME that sees the key it's the EWS - it has a coded table for 10 keys (4 pre-loaded from the factory), and the loop merely powers up the transponder inside the key which sends the EWS its unique key code. The EWS then compares this to the coded table to see if the key is authorised or barred - if authorised, it releases the relay on the starter and then sends the ISN signal to the DME for start up procedure - even if it sends this, the DME still compares the rolling coded table (some 200 of them) to the one burned into its once only memory - if the EWS's rolling code table isn't matched to the DME , the car doesn't start (this is the immobliser portion within the DME) - (to stop people swapping out precoded EWS modules in cars that are paired to stolen keys.)

This is why when you order a new EWS from BMW they code it to exactly the same as the one in your car - so the rolling code table matches up. Which is also why when you've used all 10 keys pre-stored in the EWS you have no choice but to buy a new DME and EWS and start the alignment procedure from scratch.

Your friend must be fairly smart to be able to crack into the rolling code table and wipe it from the start up procedure ... as far as I know that can only be done on EWS 1, 2 but not 3.
Yep this has been done on my car.....this is how I know. Not sure on the intricate details but the guy I use can do all of this and more!!

Apologies about the duff info on the separate EWS module, you are correct, but it is the software in the ecu that is changed I was informed, not the actual EWS module which also contains info on mileage etc etc.

Hi,

The Guys in Germany did the
ECU etc for the Guy who has
put the M5 V10 engine into
his E30 M3 in the UK.

He started with a std SMG III loom
std MSS60 ECU which has now
been converted etc to run in the
E30 M3 but with a Manual S65 V8
G/Box and retaining the std ECU !!!

All the EWS / Imob stuff is long gone.

They have even provided the facility
whereby he can plug his laptop in
to the MSS60 ECU etc.

My MSS65 ECU should be ready early
next year.

As Cantfind1 has posted MSS54 ECU's running
which have had the EWS / Imob by passed
are done by the ECU being told, do not ask me
how, that the key/EWS etc is all good and
present, when its not.

Its some sort of Software script that they
upload.

If I remeber correctly One of the Guys
they work with did all the electrics for
a client that fitted a V10 with SMG III into
a E46 M3 which all works and functions
as seamless as if BMW had done it.

Its beauitfully executed as well.

Go figure out all the issues with that lot.

Some really clever Guys out there.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

EWS completely by-passed.

They are currently working on a MSS60/65 whereby you
do not even require a key, or 'Card' whatever
you want to call it.

All the EWS etc is again all by-passed.

Even on the May 2008 ? onwards versions where
by the Diagnostic port is supposedly 'inactive'
for ECU access.

Forgot to mention they have just done the ECU
for Guy who fitted the V10 into an E30 M3
and have made several modifications
etc.

Clever and some.

The Gorilla.
Can you provide some info on who these guys are? I have an idea for my car and I want to see if they can do it
