Palmer sport GT afternoon
I got a last minute invite to a Palmer Sport GT afternoon at Bedford which I did yesterday afternoon a very wet afternoon
Drove one of their M3 GTP cars, a Caterham 7, Porsche 911 JP3 and a Clio Cup, most disappointing car .... M3 It was really bad weather so traction was kept on by the instructors for all drivers, you can basically push them flat out, no correction required from the driver I was lifting off trying to correct the steering only to be told, keep the steering straight and push flat out all the time, the car does the rest for you fast and amazing what speeds you can go through corners but requires no input from the driver at all, apart from when to brake and when to floor it, which if you're not braking is all the time. I was really impressed with the Porsche, totally different from the CSL but really enjoyed it, apart from you really do have to yank on the paddles to change gear Caterham just as you expect Clio Cup, I know Im short but I couldn't see over the top of the steering wheel and with the windscreen fully misted it was quite an experience with the instructor saying don't worry I'll tell you when to brake and turn got quite good times, 2nd fastest in the Porsche which I was pleased with (out of 30) may be a bit of cheating, the instructor let me take traction off Great afternoon for a freebie, maybe a bit rushed through everything if I was paying for it, no sighting laps or practice, straight into it, then on to the next car. The weather didn't help, visibility was really poor at times. All in all though a good afternoon apart from.. 10 miles from home near a colleagues house, Id just picked my my car from his and didnt really know the roads... 45 in a 40 and there was a camera van at 7 bloody 30 pm not sure how far they zap you from, I was way back but if I saw it, he can see me and the dual carriageway was empty |
