Default CSL 20th Anniversary - 25-28 May 2023

With this fast approaching, we have agreed dates with BMW Classic and these are 25-28 May 2023 (similar to the 10th Anniversary).

Be aware that we have a hotel available to the WhatsApp members (72 rooms) and if necessary an overspill hotel with a further 50 rooms.

If you are not in the CSL WhatsApp group and have a CSL and want to attend this, please contact me on +44 7771 912291

The program will consist of 2 days at the Nurburgring (BMWs HQ), a tour of Schirmer Motorsport, and 1.5 days in Munich for (schedule below) and a talk by the original CSL development engineers, as well as Friedbert Holtz and Horst Von Saurma.

UPDATE:
The Nurburgring Classic Race Event is taking place from Friday to Sunday (May 26th to 28th).

We have been offered the opportunity of the integration of our group on the Saturday and Sunday (May 27th and 28th) on the following basis:

- Special admission ticket: E45 instead of E54 per person for both days (food and beverage excluded)
- On both days you will be able to use the BMW showroom (for which we only have to cover the cleaning costs of around E600)
- The catering would come on top and would cost up to E25 per person per day

We have two parking lot options:
Option 1: Paddock parking E30 per day & per club member -> It's a super cool opportunity (mixing it with the race teams), but it is a 5 minute walk from their showroom
Option 2: Parking in the towers parking lot

The following tracks will be exclusively available for us:
Nurburgring Nordschleife: Sunday 1-2pm = E7,868.28 (inc VAT) for the hire of the circuit - cost to be split between everyone (currently look at being around E135 - (but going down with each additional car). Please note that the minimum age for passengers is 18. Helmets are recommended but not obligatory (personal choice). They can be hired if required or bring yours with you if you so wish.

NB. the hour long Nordschliefe slot works out at a very reasonable amount even with just over half the 100 cars attending. A single lap on a public day at the weekend is usually E30 and if you start with an absolute full tank of fuel and aim for liesurely 10 minute BTG laps, you should comfortably be able to do 5 laps in that time (and don't forget, we're not sharing the circuit with anyone else). If you are a 'ring regular, then you will know that if you're doing sub 8s, you'll get fuel surge towards the end of the 4th lap and will need to refuel (which would be difficult to do and get back to the circuit in time for more laps, but the pace you want to drive at is up to you).

I'm personally not too bothered about the Grand Prix circuit, as I think that 30 minutes is too short and the cost too high for that circuit, but would still do it if other people want to do both.

If people wish to take up this offer, it will mean that the Welt event would need to take place on Thursday 25th May, where the Friday 26th would need to be allocated for the drive from Munich to the Nordshcleife (which is around 6 hours).

Getting to Munich for me is an 800 mile journey, so although I have done 1000 miles before in one day, it's not something I'd recommend, so I will personally be leaving Norfolk on Tuesday 23rd and having an over-nighter somewhere half-way, leaving a leisurely 400 mile drive each day. Obviously the return trip from the Nurburgring can easily be done in a day.

So the proposed schedule of events is:
Thursday 25th May BMW Factory Tour, BMW Group Classic Tour, BMW Museum AND BMW Welt. Please note that this may have to spill over into Friday morning to do everything. Which is not an issue for getting to the Nurburgring, providing people leave at lunch time (Please note that Friedbert Holtz has now confirmed that he will only be available for the Munich event).
Saturday 27th May BMW showroom / Classic Nurburgring Race weekend
Sunday 28th May BMW showroom / Classic Nurburgring Race weekend / 1 hour track driving (1-2pm)
Monday 29th May Schirmer / Nurburgring Museum tour (if the consensus is that people want to travel back home on the Monday, then we could try to move these to late afternoon on the Saturday or Sunday).

I appreciate that this is not going to be suitable for everyone, but given the amount of time and effort that has gone into the planning and organisation of this, I hope that it will not dissuade people from attending at least one of the events. So if people could DM me DIRECTLY to advise what aspect they will be attending, I can start a list of who is doing what. PLEASE DO NOT CLUTTER UP THE ANNIVERSARY WHATS-APP GROUP WITH THIS, PLEASE, PLEASE DM ME DIRECTLY.

Any other questions, please either DM me or post below.

Nurburgring aspect:
The track-time on the Nordschleife will be on Sunday the 28.05.23 from 1.00 PM to 2.00 PM.

On Sunday morning there will be a briefing for the drivers (and it is imperative that any intended co-drivers attend this as well) where everyone will be advised about the Nordschleife and how the deal with this very special race-track. The Briefing will be done by their race-Director Werner Aichinger and will last around 30 minutes.

They are suggesting that people should wear helmets. However, this is not obligatory but voluntary. They are assuming that every driver knows how to assess his abilities.
Each driver and co-driver must sign the usual track liability waiver stating that they drive the circuit at his own risk. This is imperative.

After signing, each participant will receive a wristband. Without a wristband, the person concerned will not be allowed onto the racetrack.

They will lead the participants on Sunday at about 12.00 o'clock with an escort vehicle to the Nordschleife and set it up there (so make sure you are with your car at 12.00), so that the track time starts promptly at 1.00 PM.

The entrance fee per day (day ticket) is E25 instead of the normal E32. The two-day ticket (Saturday and Sunday) is reduced E45 instead of E54 per person.

Nordschleife, there's only two barriers to worry about - the ones on the left and the ones on the right .
