The funniest thing that happened at Spa...
It was a glorious day, sunshine all day, no clouds, no rain, no DuncanR
A few strange and funny things happened. 1. The Noise testing man walked into my garage at 8am and put a dB sticker on my car. I didn't ask him if he wanted me to turn the engine on, I thought it might be rude! 2. I went up to the briefing and as I walked in everybody was walking towards the guy at the front. So I copied and he gave me a wristband.....great 3. I sort of wished I'd then been in the briefing as I wouldn't have missed the bit where he explained that you can pull to either side or the middle of the track to let others overtake, that you can overtake both sides, in corners and in convoy...... 4. I got put in a garage NEXT to the brasserie entrance, next to a load of caged French M3, supercharged M3, slick shodden M3 and CSLs AND not one came past all day. I say let's invade France now Lastly My garage had an Evo VIII that was tricked up to 500bhp, looked sweet, and the guy was dead genuine (and not a northerner which was good), so I said to his that's great but is it reliable and he said yes, been perfect so far. Anyway two sessions later by 10.30 it had blown to bits the fuel regulator which was a piece of aluminium aftermarket crap, fitted with a good piece of steel threaded connector. He promptly tried to do a track side lash up at which point I wondered if I should change garages before he blew us up. He managed to fleck around for 6 hours before putting it on the trailer he came with and driving off into the sunset. Lovely looking car and the bonnet never went down all day! I'm in Germany still so videos and photos to follows, best lap 2m 52.6 amid the only gap in loads of traffic all day (but that was the only down side of what was a great day and well workout the impending divorce A taster pic below of my trying to keep up with FLOW BUT the comical highlight of the day was about 2pm when a slight fella with a grey jumper came into my garage looking very sheepish. He promptly apologised and went on to explain how he had hassled me out on track, pushed my hard then ovetook me in his Lancer Evo VI, almost taking me out as he pushed a little bit too hard....I managed to stifle my grin and suggested he went on to one of the other grey BMWS around and apologise to someone else I had a great time with FLOW in his horrible black CSL, we had a few good sessions trying to get the better of each other but I think eventually agreed there was very little in it and after he had cooked his Tyres we went on to find other bait. FLOW started off by getting a good two laps out in front and I was struggling to keep up, but then realised I had Mook from OPL in my car and a whole tank of juice. Was understeering a little bit where I hadn't understeered in the morning, but eventually just about got it back to on track. FLOW was quicker out of La Source and thru Eau Rouge for sure, but by later in pm although he still had better lines and speed thru Eau Rouge I had managed to get the power down without Mook and very little in the cars, maybe his a little bit hotter at the top end with his 288 cams. Fantastiche......
