Car won't start!

Hi fellas
About 6 weeks ago I had the battery light come on and you guys said it was the alternator well since then I haven't used it and it's sat on my drive as I've been using the gfs mx5
I've decided to get it fixed but come to start it and all the lights were dim and yes I'd left it open all that time and didn't realise it goes into sleep mode! Got a new battery for it today as the other wouldn't take a charge and now all the dash lights come on but it won't even turn over although it's still in gear!
It did take a while yesterday to get it in neutral as the big R stayed on even though the little r had gone to neutral but it was still in gear
Has anyone any ideas as I'd like to get it to BMW but it's stuck on my drive and my insurance breakdown doesn't cover it other wise I need to pay to get it trailered there
