Cat D - anyone know of this car??

Any input would be appreciated gents. Having been lead to believe it was a cat d stolen/recovered, HPId it and got the following

***** was applied to this vehicle on 18/05/2004
This VRM has been recorded as having been repaired and inspected after previously being written-off
An inspection was recorded on 08/09/2006 against a BMW M3 CSL
This VRM has been recorded as being written-off
The insurance write-off was recorded on 07/05/2007 against a BMW M3 CSL

Anyone know how to clarify the circumstances surrounding a cat d?
