Chassis and suspension on 1M must be very well engineered. I reckon, CSL on road tyres vs 1M on road tyres and on Nordshleife, there would not be much in between these two.

A remap alone on 1M will get it up to 400BHP as well.... a serious bit of kit 1M is!!
Remind me you don't have a CSL... as a start

Go get one and don't bore us with the pickup truck.

Easy Alex. Does it really matter? So what if it's quicker. Lot's of things are quicker.

I don't think it'll be anywhere near the fun of a CSL but I like what I'm hearing and will try one for myself. Truth be told, I really fancy one. Not in the garish orange though, stealthy black for me. I've got one for a couple of days soon and I'll report back once I've done a few passes on my favourite local mountain roads.

I'm sure its brilliant but has anybody mentioned it's £40k!!! That's considerably more than what a well maintained CSL can be had for.

Of course if it is quicker than a CSL on track the where does that leave the GTS? Wasn't that only marginally quicker than a CSL on the ring?

I prefer N/A engines - so much more fun but i am very impressed with 1M.

I am looking forward to your findings on this little devil, Alex.

I reckon the 1M's tried by the press are kicking out nearer to 400bhp than 335bhp.

And if I wanted a 1er that had loads of torque and didn't do anything above 5k rpm I'd get a mapped 123d. Wonder when the first diesel ///M's will be out...

On a slightly more serious note look forward to seeing one in the flesh this w/e and might even try one!

Is it just me that thinks it's fucking ugly

Not my cup of tea at all, regardless how fast it is.
I reckon it's a car that's quick with a great driver but an average Joe will be faster in a Csl I reckon.

Wrong, according to PH article released last December mate!

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=22895

Hopefully of most interest to potential recruits to the M brand will be the 340hp straight six with twin turbochargers that gives the 1M a power-to-weight ratio of 227hp/tonne.

The engine has been lifted, apparently pretty much unmodified, straight out of the Z4 - which if true would make the giant 'Powered by BMW M' label under the bonnet seem a little (cough!) fraudulent.
