Can BMW detect delimit/remaps?

OK so it's a question that has no doubt been asked a trillion times, but I couln't find anything in the search function.

So, if I had the speed limiter removed by somebody who new what he was doing (reputable tuner), would BMW's monkeys detect it at warranty/service time?

My CSL still has 18 months warranty on it so naturally I'm a little nervous about having it unsheckled, but it's something I really want done.

I've already verified that the limiter is there, which I didn't do at 05:00 in the morning on an empty stretch of the M74...

Oh and if it's undetectable, than can anyone advise someone that might be able to do it?

whether or not bmw can find out if it has had a remap or delimit, i'm not entirely sure. but if your car is otherwise completely standard, they would not have any reason to check it.

dms can delimit it for you. or you can find someone with a race license and get them to go to bmw with your car, he tells bmw he just bought the car and wants it delimited, and maybe they'll delimit it for him. as when the csl was released bmw delimited the car if the customer provided a racing license.

Don't know technically if a dealer can interrogate the map fully but I'm sure they will have suspiscions if they feel like checking.....

95% of maps have the sport button memory so that is a giveaway.

Tbh though the dealers I have used would not look unless directed to by BMW for a major claim.

A remap they can definitely detect (heck they can detect how many times you've scanned the car) ... not 100% sure about the delimit however. I am not 100% familiar as to how the delimit is done, but if my guess is correct it's simply a command within the control module that turns the function on or off. This is usually done via a BMW factory tool called NCS Expert which I happen to have.

The functions are usually Activ or Nich Activ within the command line.

So I presume that delimit would be listed in the commands lines and it'll just be an off or on switch. If that is the case, then yes they can see it if you've turned it on, but in a sense it's a functional part of the car so realistically it makes little difference to your warranty (think of it as function activation within your key EWS).

Hi,

As said BMW can detect most things on
the Siemens MSS54 ECU.

The more reputable 'Tunning'' companies
would suggest that the ''original Map''
was reloaded if the Car was in for
Service work etc.

The Problem with this is that there is some
form of encryption on the ECU that BMW can
scan which tells them how many times the
engine Map has been ''booted'' and ''rebooted''

Hence on count back from Service records etc its
very easy to detect if somebody has been
accessing the ECU.

On the E90 M3 the MSS65 ECU can actually count
and date everytime the ECU is accessed.
I believe it even detects in most cases what
has been accessed.

Some early Tuners who were accessing MSS65 via the
Diagnostic Port thought it was undectable.

Little did they know.

People forget, the ECU is a Mini computer.

Just because you believe you have covered your
tracks does not mean no trail exists.
