Update...........I've had the clutch biting point re-calibrated after finally convincing BMW it could be done.............no better still slurring, bugger.

I'm going to take the car for a proper drive in S5 and see if it helps, the weather and traffic around here aren't helping though. Other than that its get BMW to crack open the box and check the clutch, hoping its something under warranty, if not I'll have to pay for a new one.

Oh yes, BMW tried to charge me 4 hours labour for resetting the clutch as they said it wasn't covered under warranty, £110 per hour ! They eventually charged it all to training and I didn't have to pay.

That's ridiculous ... the clutch curve reinitialisation doesn't take 4 hours to do .. more like half an hour.

To reteach the whole gear selection process and clutch curve however can take quite a while - I can't remember how long now, if memory serves mine took about 4 hours to do.

That's the thing, it wasn't driven by them at all ... so whatever was done in the workshop sorted it. Must find out as it's been bugging me (and may help others of course).

Erasing the fault codes etc etc can reset certain systems. Probably what happened in your case.

Update….finally decided I'd had enough of the dreaded slur so booked it into Stockport BMW, they had previously recalibrated the clutch biting point but that didn't cure it, told them I thought it must be the clutch (45k miles on same clutch as far as I'm aware), the tech guy took it out and thought it was the diff, the clutch is fine, they phoned me up and said it was a warranty item so replaced it, got it back 3 days ago....I was a little dubious to say the least......day 1-took it out and it felt the same (very disappointed)....day 2-decided to give the
SMG software a chance to learn the new 'non slipping' diff, hmmmm improvement, the waaaaarrrrrggghhhh ching into gear reduced.....day 3(today)-jesus H christ I've got whiplash!! Its banging into gear like it used to, only slight hesitation but I think that will be cured with a little more ‘spirited’ driving tomorrow morning.

Will update tomorrow night with results, off to bed for an early start.

that`s a result if it`s cost you nothing mines in at bolton getting clutch flywheel etc unfortunatly its costing me £1800

Is that at a dealer mate? My local stealer has just quoted me £1140
for a new clutch a new flywheel and a smg software up date!

Ok People there is a problem that bmw are not going to sort now

If you tell BMW to take the box out for clutch slipping and you are willing to pay for it as long as the clutch is worn below the limit thats fine.

BUT and its a big BUT if it is within spec i want warranty or good will to pay.

Thats how to tell bmw you want the clutch sorted as all the CSLs i have seen
and thats a few with some at 54,000 miles and the clutch was fine but flywheel had burn marks on it warranty picked up the tab
