Default brake pads

Hi,

question for those with csl oem brakes. What brake pads do you use and where do you buy them from. I currently have ferodo pads but have read that Performance friction pads would be better for track use.

Any comments and links to web sites selling brake pads would be apriciated.

I used to have EBC yellow pads with uprated lines/fluid. They performed reasonably well at the Ring but suffered at UK short circuit track days.

Gone AP now

I went from Standard set up to full AP's with RS29's

I think your right in saying PF pads are good.

As for suppliers try Thorney Motorsport or Simpsons for advice and supply.

I have EBC to with uprated fluids and brake lines. They are better than standard and they performed well at Goodwood but for lots of track work def a big brake upgraded would be better.

from my experience with EBC they are really bad pads for your disks and from what I've seen and heard its not only me that thinks that way.
There are a lot of other good pads out there.

Try Alan a Questmead, these guys do know about Brakes and not just pads

I use EBC pads and yes the yellow pads eat discs but the red stuff are as good as FERODO DS2500 pads
for 1/3 the price

2 setup's for me

front Pagid RS5 or RS29
Rear Ds2500 only.

very happy with that work's good on all types of track.

This is a good question re pads: after completely melting the standard pads to their backing plates in half a dry day at Snetterton , I'm considering

RS29 (proven, but squeal like pigs in urban use)
RS14 (blacks, recommended by some - do these squeal in town use?)
RS4-4 (orange, good but do they last?)
RS5 - new pads from Pagid... any good?
DS2500 - good for fast road I hear, but that's about it?
PF01 - I prefer to steer clear of these as the dust is corrosive when wet

If I did more TDs, I'd just plonk for the RS29s automatically, but just wondering if there's a quieter alternative that doesn't lose out too much on-track performance?

I've got PF01's in I believe. I haven't found the dust too bad. I just cleaned my wheels the other day and found it easier than RS29 dust honestly. I've heard from some on these cars RS14's are ok. I had RS14's in the rear of the GT3 and they squealed like a Mac truck coming your way. Awful. Rs29's never made a peep. That is my experience though on the 3.

Problem I think I'd find with the rs14's would be the CoF of them. It's huge and I think the CSL's already have too much brake assist. RS14's would send you through the windscreen.
Rs29's have a high CoF to, but not as high as 14's. Personally I'd want a low CoF pad with consistency through the heat range. I'm happy to push harder on the pedal - it's maintaining the CoF at the same level throughout the heat range that's most important.

Thanks for all the answers so far.... here comes a follow up question:

what about brake fluids. Just today called to a Castrol reseller and the best price for Castrol SRF fluid (1 litre) was 79 euros (69,18 GBP). That is quite expensive. I'm about to change the original brake hoses to steel hoses and was wondering what would be ideal fluid for street / track use.
