Default Wheel queries

Looking at sticking a set of cup tyres on the car at sometime.

However I like the idea of having a set of wheels with the SS on and also a set with cups on. Not a huge fan of taking off and refitting tyres otherwise I'd just have one set of wheels and stick cups on in the spring and the SS in the Autumn.

The best price I can find for oem wheels is £1556. Wary of going down the rep route as not sure how good the quality would be, not in looks but in the inherent strength.

Whilst £1556 may be a good deal, it's still a good deal of cash to have the luxury of a second set of wheels.

Anyone have much experience of whizzing tyres on and off, is it likely to wreck the beading on them? Or, are the rep wheels better quality than I'm assuming and worth a punt?

Ta.

I always go with a spare set. By the time you have spent £60 having tyres changed and balanced twice a year it is cheaper to tie the money up in the wheels.

Brian

a second set is a must have for the stated reasons.

MPSS's and Cups covers all eventualities.

I run cups on both sets changing the oldest set each year.

I run two sets, MPSS and cups. I haven't got around to putting the MPSS on yet for the colder weather, but since the car is SORNed I probably won't bother now. Roll on springtime.

No need to buy OEM though. A lot of nice aftermarket wheels out there...

BBS/Oz for example?

Good point.

Struggling to get my head around coughing up £1500 plus for a set of wheels that are unlikely to see much daylight.

I think I'll just stick some Cup2 on in the spring and darkhole the SS somewhere in the garage. The car doesn't get out much in the winter so maybe the cups can stay on full time.

Despite previous denials the chances are it will see a track and I think the cups will be a bonus. In effect, the strength/integrity of the oem wheels will be more use in that sort of environment. If, and it's a big if, I need something for winter I may just go down the rep route as if it comes out in winter it's only going to be pottering about.

Have no qualms on buying bits for the car e.g. brakes, exhaust, engine works, just can't see the benefit in an expensive set of wheels just sitting there.
