For the head gasket yes.

Bearings are just pot luck. Would be frustrating to change them and find the old ones were ok, would be even more frustrating to not change them and listen to it all go bang.

I suppose if someone has the facilities / ability to drop the sump and do a bearing inspection it's a huge advantage. I don't have either

Interesting stuff. From a driving perspective did you have any indication at all that you HG had failed?

Also, what's the mileage on those bearings?

No indication when driving ref HG.

Gareth had driven it only a few weeks before and nothing was untoward.

Car has 75,000 on it.

Well, the 1200 miles are taking a bit of doing!

With me being away so much for work and the crappy weather we've all been having cesil rarely makes an appearance in public.

Working towards having them racked up by early spring if poss then down to Barts for an oil change. Whilst there I'll get the aircon sorted as noticed last year that, if the weather is wet, the inside steams up like the local sauna. Have to use great self control not to ask the other half if she offers extras.

Anyhow, will be dipping my toe in the murky waters of exhausts at the same time. Listened to so bloody many youtube vids the mind goes numb. It doesn't really help that the sound quality isn't always the best.

Now that Barts do SuperSprint I'll likely be going down the route of a lightweight race back box and a non res centre pipe...and ear plugs in the door pocket in case.

ive had most and SS Race Lghtweight, Res Centre and either standard or HSL cats work well and mean you can get onto every track

Non res centre does make Bedford harder to beat the noise polie

i took the plunge and had simpsons fit the SS race lightweight back box and the non-res centre. Running standard M3 cats. Noise level tested at Snetterton was 98 dB (6000 rpm limiter in neutral).

Pops I've mentioned this before but I may have the solution to your steamy Windows. The scuttle panel around the windscreen and wipers fails . The rubber sealing it to the panel cracks. Straight below that seal is the pollen filter. Water Gos onto the pollen filter and your constantly sucking in moist air. The large panel is £35 from Bmw. As its not Csl specific is cheap. Plus a new one looks a million dollars. It really needs making a sticky as you'd never realise unless you take the screen out 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
