2001 BMW M3 GTR to be presented at Pebble beach
This is truly amazing. The road version of an excellent GT racing successor will make an appearance at Pebble beach.
I think only 3 of them were constructed if i recall correctly and BMW kept the 2 and the other one went somewhere in Bahrain. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1159057 Last edited by Loaded; 07-08-2015 at 12:03 PM. |

The DNA of the GTR lives on in the CSL pity about the V8 though.

Amazing car, would love to see the street version in person.
Hopefully it will be displayed at the bmw welt soon. Unfortunately the street version doesn't have the widebody of the race car but still an awesome car

There's all sorts of misinformation surrounding the GTR, I doubt there is another BMW which promised so much and yet remains consigned to a vault to exist in obscurity. Why?
Other vehicles eg. the M3 Touring which never made it into production but is on public display, unlike the GTR. The GTR was however produced, albeit in limited numbers, two racing teams were supplied with cars and 6 models were sold through showrooms to private individuals, only to have BMW buy 4 of them back? Again why? It's also known that the other 2 still exist in private hands, and will not be sold for any price. Strange behavior for a multi-national car manufacturer of considerable repute. Perpetuation of a legend, soon to be myth, perhaps - we'll never know. Although it is another example of history repeating itself and of BMW shooting themselves in the foot, IMO. Perhaps if BMW had continued production, we might have found ourselves contributing to the GTR Register. On the other hand, it begs the question would there have been a CSL?

Yes i too would like to know why bmw did not show it in public for the last decade.
Would love to see a head to head comparison between the gtr and the csl.

The one off E46 M3 Touring is well & truly locked away from the public but it was exclusively rolled out just for us on the 10 year CSL Anniversary FYI the race version of the M3 GTR is on public display @ BMW Museum across the road from BMW Welt Some of us have seen it with our own eyes and even stood right next to it Last edited by mattCSLnut; 07-08-2015 at 11:02 PM. |
