Odd one today
Had an odd one today ....accelerating hard to overtake, I Accidentally hit the Rev limiter in 3rd , changed into 4 th and the engine warning light came on and car was misfiring ( felt like the limiter) . Coasted along on a light throttle at 70 for about a mile misfiring all the way ( was on the motorway so couldn't immediately pull over) and up the slip road. Slowed to a near stop, changing down through the gears ..... Then light went out and misfire gone .
Car then fine for the rest of my 15 mile journey incl some full throttle pulls all the way through the Rev range. any ideas ? Rev limiter stuck on ( is that possible ) , coil pack threw a wobbly ? |

Sounds like one or more of the coils is on its way out. Have they ever been changed.

not sure if the coil packs have been changed .. car clicked over 67K miles yesterday ( I bought it at 59K ).
Trying to understand why the rev limiter reining back the ignition would cause a coil pack to temp fail ? Will a diagnostic show what happened and to which coil pack ? £21 for a coil pack good ? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/BM...6cfef9b&000197 Last edited by 73CSL; 05-02-2015 at 11:15 AM. |

thanks Gareth
Not quite sure what a single coil misfiring would feel like, but in this instance when you tried to accelerate it wouldn't , felt like all the ignition was being held back I'll swap over all the coils and see Are the bosch coils in the link I posted the correct ones ? |

Give Martin at MS Motorsport a shout first, see if he can match the price
Coils are: Bosch Part No. 0 221 504 464 and don't forget the plugs: NGK Part No. DCPR8EIX while you're at it!

spark plugs were done at the inspection 2 , 6000 miles ago, by gareth when he was @ elms
Neil, I'd already ordered the coil packs from euro ( went through cashback.com & got another 5% off ) before I saw your post . Out of interest, would coil packs be covered by the warranty ? ( not relevant for me as I have a £250 excess ) |
