On the wife's mini (JCW) we fitted the same size tyres as the summer variety. This was the option recommended by mini & we had no problem last winter. Some times we were the only car on the road when it snowed. When we passed cars people looked at us like we were crazy. Very good in the wet too. The winter tyres also happen to be run flats, which, makes the wife feel better on these dark nights.

I've got OEM M3 18's and Vredestein Wintrac's for the CSL. I avoid going out unless there is no choice now, but when they were on my previous SMG M3 it was fantastic in snow as opposed to utterly useless on PS2's.

Main worry on the CSL would be using the carbon flippers as a snow-plough....

Got Avon Ice tourings on the Skoda's 14" wheels, it's pretty squidgy at higher temps but it only trundles about anyway, so no big deal.

I get the tyres from Mytyres, their winter tire/steel rim combo selection is pretty good.

They don't seem to do correct rating for CooperS

But for under £400 wheels and tyres can't be bad

Yeah, all good advice on here. You are saving money in the long run with winters, summer tyres wear excessively at cold temps, and the UK spends a lot of the year <7deg at the times of day when ppl are commuting.

I can only recommend MyTyres.co.uk as well, or their German equivalent http://www.reifendirekt.de/.

I have a set of 4 superb avon ice touring ST .. 17R, 225/45 ( Google reviews and you'll see these are some of the best winter tyres you can buy)

Been used on the wife's merc last winter for 5 months ... Hardly worn

Don't have a car with 17" rims anymore

£190 collected North Yorkshire
