Does anyone know of a accident damaged/fire damaged CSL? Looking to make a decent fast road/track car so interior not important. Seen the one on pistonheads with fire, has anyone been to see this ? Is it a no go ???

Don't mind travelling

Cheers

I'm not eactly sure what you are after, but the looks spot on, no? Have you called the seller to see if it runs (bearing in mind its wiring loom is spewed all over the engine bay)?

Personally, as I discovered when looking for mine, there is no point trying to 'do CSL' on the cheap. If I was you, I'd look for a part-prepped normal M3. They're bloody good and you'll save a bunch of cash. You can then do all the weight saving/power upgrades etc with the money you've saved.

Finally, bear in mind what it's going to be like selling your CSL Project car - a fire damaged, heavily modified/rebuilt CSL? That won't be worth any more than the straight M3 if you went that way.

What about : No sunroof (lighter), needs a bit of suspension (near the top of the mods list anyway) and 18" wheels (better handling on the M3)?

Assuming that putting the fire-damaged car back on the road costs another 5k, before mods, that gives you 12k to spend on a 'vanilla' M3 project car. That's a load of mods...

I've got an e46 vert now but always wanted a csl and love doing project cars it'll be a toss up between race or concours. Is the fire damaged one no good then ?

only if you plan on selling it in the future.

Will it be a track car only?

if so, you'll be making a mistake by buying a CSL IMO as in - an unnecessary expense. You can buy 2001 M3 coupe and spend some money on suspenion, brakes and tyres. Throw away anything that you won't have use of like... rear seats, sound deadening, door cards etc. job done.

you're not going to enter racing competition and try to win loads of money - are you? it's just for fun, right?

Do you still believe that?

I agree for a race car but mot a road /Trackday car, CSL is cheaper and faster and nicer to own

It'll be completely gutted and a nut and bolt rebuild maybe a fast track/road car or maybe back to original with the intention of showing, ill decide that when building.

I'll probably never sell it no it'll be something I keep for a long long time.

So fired damaged ? Or accident damage ? Anyone else selling one anywhere in the world ??
