Just what I was thinking, won't be rushing out to try one, think the E46 is the best looking shape BMW have done. Was always going to happen with the one series, there about the same size as a e46. I think turbo cars are fun, easy to tune, but don't make the noise, it's all about the noise........ Ando |

But now I own the E92, I see lines that you dont notice straight away, its very similar in a way to the e46, then throws a modern twist in too. Then when the e46 is next to the e92 I think the e46 does show a little age, still beautiful regardless. This pic sort of got me hooked, and you can see the similarities between the 2. The M1 is still fugly though. e92dct.jpg |

I've driven the press car here in Sweden on two occasions. It's a real cracker that one! I haven't read any reviews of it at all yet though.
We had a whole day on an airfield track where we had these four to compare: - 1 M coupé - V8 PDK coupé - CSL (mine) - 2002 Turbo! See where the idea for the article is going ;-) Anyhoo, we had ample time in each car and I must say the 1 M is really really impressing! It pulls like crazy. Getting back in the CSL I got worried something was wrong with it before I after a lap or two re-accustomed myself to it The 1 M is also a blast when turning the wheel, the short wheelbase is very present in the way it reacts and handles. Sometimes it's even a handful in the wet with all gizmos turned off. You do always shift up 1000 rpm below the redline though, in stock trim there's no use going further up. This is IMHO a very small "blemish" which anyway probably can be fixed with aftermarket stuff. My main complaint is that it only comes with a manual gearbox. If it had less power I wouldn't mind this at all but with it's crazy pull I really really really missed PDK or SMG. The CSL is with no question whatsoever the more focused track car. It's more communicative, absolutely more fun when driving hard on a track. But the 1 M is a truly great car, I'm 100% convinced it will sell in spades. It will be a fantastic treat at the Ring. And it can be tweaked to get even better. Now if they do a lightweight with PDK I'll have some trouble sticking with my beloved CSL... So I hope they don't PS: Don't tell any Swedes about what I just wrote above, the article is probably a secret. Ooops, if you're a swede forget what you just read!

Hi,
Seems the old CSL is ok yet for a while, well on Track anyway. http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=23696 I just keep thinking that a E92 on the correct diet with some proper brakes and sorted suspension and bars, a nice free flowing exhaust would be right on the money. Regards, The Gorilla. |

B road handling ability and track performance mean two very different set ups.
You cannot have it both ways, it is always a compromise. |
