5 years is good going on a battery especially on an 'occasional' car, the DD was dead this morning, not even enough to pop the CDL or give me interior courtesy lights , showing 5.8V, 5.5 years old original battery.

You'll probably find the car's got a tracker lurking somewhere (mine had 2 when I got it, now reduced to 1), which will contribute to battery drain and ultimate battery death if the car was used very infrequently.

I'd like to know this too as it's a waste of space and weight in my car...

DIY for changing discs is here (ok it's a normal m3 and not a CSL but the principle is the same)...

Many thanks indeed!

Just been delivered back! Seems they did actually install the battery anyway rather than just put the new one in the boot (F.O.C)...my wife said you could almost hear the woman admitting that through gritted teeth!

Going to take it a drive now and see how it is with new rear springs.

I think (and hope) the answer was as suggested below that it was a 5 year old battery in an infrequently driven car.

Thanks all!
