mmmmmm sounds to me like vanos then. By any means I wouldn t be driving it!

Have a look, open bonnet leave engine running and then gently rev the car, if you have someone to help you, you can listen while they rev. If its the vanos it will be obvious and be rattling from the unit.

It is common in these vanos units for the bolts holding the cams to the vanos unit becoming loose, hense cams rattle in the housing.

I would not be driving it and if you have to no going above 3000rpm!!

Doesn't misfire on initial acceleration ony on load , but rattles low down on and off and more as speed is constant on slight acceleration

Headgasket will give a misfire of some sort. Does sound like vanos mate. Take it easy.

Can you find another dealer to diagnose mate? That's mental waiting to 17th.

Not good dude!

I had an exhaust catalyst fail on a Honda Civic years ago and that rattled like a bastard when it went.

This sounds like the problems i had when my Vanos solenoid kicked the bucket.. The car drove just fine while cruising, but when i pushed the gas pedal in it got some hick ups at about 2700-2900rpm together with some missfire problems. Didn't have the rattling noise though.. Hope things work out!

Screw driver test to find the source of the rattle.
