oil level help!
Guys, my cars has been showing +.9 on the display, dropping to +0.8 following a run across france.
The car was dropped off at the dealer & they have added 0.8l of oil. I queried this & mentioned to the service manager that +0.8 does not mean add oil, it means its full (ish). He checked with a tech who said they don't take any notice of the dash display & connect it to the diagnostic to get an accurate reading. I am concerned that i now have an extra litre of oil in the car & don't want to risk damage, is there any way of checking that this is correct? Strangley, the dash still says +0.8! The dealer concerned has fed me bullshit over the past week while car has been with them & do not inspire confidence. There is only one other CSL on the island & i'm not sure they are familiar with the cars. |

If it was really +0.8 before and they added another 0.8 then it'll be overfilled. The OBC displays only go upto +1.1 so you never know the extent of an overfill from there alone. The dipstick is the best way to check that. Last edited by SpineOnABap; 11-08-2010 at 06:48 AM. |

Best U watch this video that Mark CSL did a while back that shows how it's done Get it checked manually as these electronic dipstic displays have a mind of their own sometimes
Linky to the video below... scroll down to the bottom of the tread for the video http://www.cslregister.com/forum/sho...light=dipstick If U find that the dealer in question has indeed overfilled your engine, make them sort it out (at their cost + get a refund for the cock-up they made in the first place) then call BMW Customer Services department @ Bracknall to log a complaint about the said dealer. Thanks chaps, it gets worse:
The car had an AUC inspection at the UK servicing dealer (dealer 1)the day before i flew over & collected it, & was given a clean bill of health. I pop it in to my local dealer (dealer 2) a week later & they find a number of issues (illeagial tyres, both back box clamps rotted through & blowing etc). I contacted the UK dealer, who after denying all knowledge, confirmed that the tech had admitted NOT actually completing the AUC check & just ticking the sheets. I was more than a little shocked by the admission, but the dealer agreed that my local dealer should complete a further Full AUC check, (at dealer 1's expense) to identify any issues & dealer 1 would get them resolved. So the earliest dealer 2 could get the car in was a month later, assuming i could do without a loan car & the CSL would be in for 2 days. Any way the AUC check was completed on wed last week & the completed check sheets passed to me. One of the things i had specificaly asked them to check was a banging noise coming from the back (bush/mounts/diff). When i went to collect the car last night, (having been with them 8 days to complete a 2 day job), i was told they were unable to roadtest the car over the past week due to other issues with the car & so no progress with the cause of the noise. I asked why the roadtest section of the AUC sheet had been completed & ticked as being all OK, if the car had not been roadtested. Cue a panicked workshop manager & stream of excuses & bullshit. I get a call this morning from same workshop manager who says: "I've had all of the techs in a meting at 08.00 this morning to discuss your car, & i am not satisfied that we have carried out the work correctly. We will be starting the work over again this morning & will ensure It is done quickly & to the correct standard. I can only aploigise" When i asked about the AUC check the workshop manager replied: "i do not believe we carried out the check last week" WTF? so he admits the check was not carried out, yet manages to produce a full 4 page completed checklist with mileage, chassis no's etc. I have not contected BMW uk yet, to be honest i'm a bit shocked. 2 main dealers, admitting falsifying documents for work charged for & not actually completed! What makes it worse is dealer 2 knew that dealer 1 had not completed the check & thats why it was being done again! In fact as i read this back to myself, i am both shocked & getting more angry by the second. Any suggestions? Sadly i'm out of ammo for the AK47, but i may have some milk bottles & a gallon of four star in the shed. |

FFS - that's not what you expect from any main dealer - nevermind two of them doing a similar thing!
I would be threatening to report your experience to the motoring press followed by potential legal action against them unless they agree to rectify all faults free of charge and draw a line under the sorry affair!

What a bloody mess!! Feel for you mate, I HATE letting garages/dealerships have my car as I just don't trust people!
Thankfully Glendog recommended Simpsons to me who have been superb and I hope Murkett's are going to be the same (waiting on Andy coming back to me at the moment), whereabouts are you based?

Hi,
Being a Primate I am getting confused over this Oil Level reading via the Dip Stick taking more than about 5 mins ? What are you guys doing that makes it such a long job ? Can anybody please explain ? PortlandGrey- I would send an E.mail marked urgent to BMW UK at Bracknell, and then photocopy the e.mail, and also fax that to BMW UK and mark that fax that it has been sent to your solicitor. I would then ask BMW UK what goodwill now and in the future they are willing to consent to in writing given the facts of what has occurred and potential future issues that may arise due to the incompetance of an Authorised Main Dealer. I would then tell the Local Dealer that you have contacted BMW UK direct and that they should be contacting them directly. Nothing like big brother telling little brother what to do. Regards, The Gorilla. |
