Help reqd. on some querries please.
Having now looked at several csl's can you pass comment on following general points I have noticed/ want answers:-
1) BMW 'goodwill' have any of you had experience of dealer goodwill for replacing such items as steering wheel (alcantara flat) cill protectors (water marked under csl trim) black trim around windows/doors & roof (oily marks/residue) bonnet catches (rusty) viscous couplig bolt (rusty) 2 Cost of paintwork particularly front spoiler/bumper?? and bonnet?? both need repainting due to excessive stone chips. 3) polishing out marks to door panels (caught by shoes getting out) ditto cill/thresholds, ditto panel behind front seats?? Also polishing out marks to rear centre console caused by the rear seat belts rubbing?? 4) Refurbishing Alloys, costs and how good finish?? 5) Re-use of Cup tyres some owners removed the cups and put on road tyres but retained the cups. Can these be used again OK?? 6) Wax to underside. were all CSLs plastered with travel wax on u/side which does seem to have protected the fuel lines etc?? Regarding servicing 6) 1200 mile done at less than 500?? is this OK?? 7) oil service done 2.5 years ago yet computer says not needed for another 7500miles?? I thourght there was a time limit aswell as miles?? brake fluid change last done 2006 ie missed 2008 albeit not done many miles in between. is this OK if done this year?? Many thanks in anticipation as sure some of you will have opinions / answers which I will find helpful. |

Hi,
1. Goodwill, once common when the CSL was newer and on lower mileage cars is slowly drying up now that they are 7 years old. 2. Depends where you go of course but i think a front bumper can be painted by a decent indy for around £300 or so. Cheaper if you remove & strip it yourself. 3. Paintwork and sill plates should all be pristine and detailed by the supplying dealer. The seat backs and rear centre console can not be polished as they are covered in a sort of thin plastic/rubberised coating. 4. Wheel set refurbishment will cost between £200 - £300 depending on where you take them. 5. Cup tyres like any tyres can be stored and re-used. Their performance will degrade slightly over time of course. I have just used a pair of fronts made back in 2003! 6. All UK supplied CSLs had the wax underseal applied by BMW UK IIRC 7. I wouldn't be keen on a car that had it's 1200 mile oil changed at just 500. 8. Personally, if i drove minimal miles i would still have an oil change done yearly as much for the FSH if anything. The brake fluid will definitely need changing before use! Hope this helps. Rob.

If the Csl your looking at is a good price most of the above can be put right, but the 1200mile service at less than 500miles would put me right off this car, also the owner needs to get the oil changed NOW,as he is 6 months to late as it is.If i were you i would start looking for another one.
