Default Bugger of a day

Was all set to get some tuition today at the Prodrive test track outside Warwick with Carolyn from Driverdp.com

Got up first thing, checked my tyre pressures at the local BP - saw DazBlackCSL and did mutual wave. Then headed onto M'way.

By the A404, had a rumble, accompanied by tyre pressure sensor light going red. Didn't want to go up to Warwick with that, so turned back towards Maidenhead to check it out. When I stopped, the front pad had smoke coming out!

Car was AUC so under warranty, so BMW Assist got to me in an hour - took wheel off, whacked brakes with a hammer to ease the seized caliper and escorted me to local dealer.

Got call back end of day - car fixed (under warranty) and sounds like they replaced caliper, disk and pad (all standard ones). Will check out the job card tomorrow.

So now just to sort out the rebooking of the tuition day and see how much I lose given I only gave them an hour notice.

In other news - looks like I need a couple of new rears tyres. What the favoured Road tyre at the minute? All input welcome - I am not on cups for my daily driver.

it could have been worse, at least the problem was covered under warranty and you didnt get any grief from the dealer

what was the driver day ?

Unlucky mate - at least Warranty will pick up the cost.

Regards road tyres, if you plan on doing the odd track day then i would recommend Michelin PS2. PS2s will happily be pushed on track and hold their own.

If you don't want to pay top dollar, many on here will recommend Falken 452 or Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta as good value performance tyres.

Goodyear F1 Assymetric falls somewhere in between the PS2s and the others.

Thanks chaps - will be ringing round for prices tomorrow.

s.mac - look up the site - it was their performance car course - had read good things about it elsewhere, and the dates were perfect for me

Daz - we will be spookily close. I'm up off the back of Simons Lane. I previously had a MiniGP for 3 years, but there's a couple more of them locally.

I know of several people who have used both and say that PS2s perform better on track than the Goodyears
