The catches are the things in the front slam panel and they are the things that usually start getting sticky with age and dirt accumulating in there. They are the release mechanism for the pointy bolts attached to the bonnet with return springs, which are usually OK, so long as the tension/return springs are not broken. Best thing to do is to clean your slam panel catches with WD40, make sure they are moving freely (get an assistant to pull you bonnet release handle and watch then move with ease) then apply some grease to them (either white or copper grease) Failing all that (read it... if U can't be arsed

) get an BMW Indy to sort it out for Ya

Just had a look and the left handside catch isn't sticking as it full of road dirt etc. I guess this last weeks 2500 mile road trip didn't help. But at least it was fun
