Schrick already does CSL cam profiles, as it is a common upgrade for normal M3 owners . However, BMW won't fit non-genuine cams (as I am finding out to my cost, as I have been without the car since the end of July, due to BMW GMbH having rejected two batches of replacement cams from their supplier so far, and they won't supply / fit anything else (and mine suffering the usual CSL cam wear issues)).

Yes, it's under the BMW Mondial warranty scheme.

It's been sitting at the dealership since July this year (all stripped down waiting for parts), first waiting for head bolts (as BMW GMbH were showing the cams in stock) and then when the release date for the headbolts came (6 September), BMW GMbh informed Sycamores (the UK BMW dealer doing the warranty work) that all the inlet cams in that batch had failed to pass their quality control procedures and had been rejected (I have not been informed on what basis they were rejected). I was then advised that another batch of three were due in shortly, these arrived at BMW GMbH a few weeks ago, but were also subsequently rejected . So I am now waiting for a third batch and hope that these are okay, but have had no date advised for their release to BMW GMbH yet (and no guarantee that they will even pass the inspection)......

The wear issue is a common problem with them and BMW are obviously trying to prevent a re-occurrence by carrying out more stringent quality checks, but I just want my car back .

Very sorry to hear this Mike. I hope your car is fixed soon.

I don't have such problems because there is no warranty option here and you just bite the bullet and pay on your own

Back to the subject.
Are the cams wearing out because of lubrication issues ?
The same problem exists in the M3 E30 and the S14 engine.
Usually happens when the oil from the the cylinder head is not optimal (there is an o-ring or something that creates the problem - I don't remember the detail of this).

The cams are x rayed before being released.

Strange you are waiting on inlet cams because I just picked mine up this week and was told the three exhaust cams they had in stock failed x ray tests.

Can someone please confirm the markings on the csl cams?? I have a feeling the markings on them are identical in every respect to the stock M3 cams???

Can you not just buy the Schrick cams and slide them under the counter at BMW along with a box of Jaffa Cakes? Jaffa Cakes can work wonders you know.

It's quite possible that it was the exhaust cams, I was just so annoyed at yet another delay that I may have misheard which he said was in and which he said they were waiting on.

At least I now know what they failed on (I had thought it was some type of hardness testing they were carrying out to see if they were going to suffer the same scoring). It's even more worrying that the people making them are sending out cams with actual material flaws....

As you seem to be better connected, have you had any indication when the next batch of exhaust cams are to arrive ?

The scoring on them looks like an oil supply issue would be where you would point the finger, but my engine was fitted with a brand new oil pump 10k ago (and I religiously run it at 1.1 litres on track) and as far as I am aware the standard cams in the S54 don't suffer the same issues? Although Tom may be able to confirm this better ?

Sycamore won't fit anything non-genuine - they won't even replace the brake fluid with Castrol SRF (despite Castrol being their previous fluid supplier), as the SRF is not a fluid they recognise as being fit for purpose as it isn't down on their list , so sadly I don't think even chocolate Hobnobs would work for the cams ...

Schrick does not sell CSL-equivalent cams. The CSL has 268º intake and 264º exhaust cams with the same lift as the stock M3 cams; Schrick doesn't sell anything like that.
