I don't think you would pay his/her reserve given its poor condition.

100% agree the reserve price was way over the top for the standard the Keyring is. For me £150

"Very, Very Rare, BMW M3 CSL Carbon Fibre Keyring. Totally Original, Used, In Fantastic Condition. Comes in the original BMW Grey Box. Part Number - 80540301625

These are no longer available and are rarer than the cars themselves."

The operative word in this instance being Used, 10 years of use is bound to leave it's mark. However the 4 pics give little clue to the condition of the keyring itself, 3 being of the box (which looks to be in good condition) the 4th with keyring boxed cleverly disguises the edges. Caveat Emptor

Other ones which have been sold over recent years have been New, therein lies the difference!

It doesn't say "In fantastic condition for age" however, it just says "In fantastic condition"?

The bottom line 'in my opinion' is the ad was misleading, like you said the pictures disguise the damage and its certainly not in fantastic condition as suggested. If they were more honest with the pictures and used more appropriate wording about the condition then I wouldn't have bid.

I will let you know what PayPal decide, thank you all for your comments.
